“Resting in the Garden”
A quiet reminder that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you can rest. Resting in the Garden speaks of trust, stillness, and finding beauy in the waiting.
There are seasons when we want so badly to know what comes next. We look for answers, try to make the right decisions, and sometimes forget that it’s okay to simply be still for a while.
Resting in the Garden grew out of my own experience of learning to trust the process. While painting the loose, abundant peonies surrounding this little crimson songbird, I had to resist the urge to control every brushstroke and know exactly where the painting was going. I had to let it unfold.
And somewhere along the way, the little bird began to tell the story.
She rests quietly among the flowers, not worried about what comes next. She is simply there – provided for, surrounded by beauty, and at peace in the place where she has landed.
For me, she became a picture of trust.
Maybe trust isn’t always having an answer or knowing how everything will work out. Sometimes it’s taking the next small step and leaving the rest with God. Sometimes it’s noticing the beauty that is already around us. And sometimes it’s giving ourselves permission to rest while we wait.
Resting in the Garden was painted for those in-between seasons -the waiting, the beginning again, the uncertain path ahead. My hope is that when you see her in your home, she reminds you to be gentle with yourself.
You don’t need every answer today.
There is peace and beauty in the waiting, and you don’t have to figure everything out before you can rest.
